Monday: NO SCHOOL
Tuesday: Continue our study of poetry: alliteration, onomatopoeia, rhyme, and repetition. Start our new math unit on counting by 100's, 10's and 1's.
Wednesday: Conclude our study of poetry: alliteration, onomatopoeia, rhyme, and repetition. Continue our new math unit on counting by 100's, 10's and 1's.
Thursday: Library book checkout is today. Begin new reading topic of diagrams and illustrations.
Friday: Reading lessons will be on diagrams and illustrations we will have a test next Wednesday. Math will continue to focus on counting by 10's, 100's and 1's. Spelling and grammar test today.
Important Dates and Things to Keep in Mind
- Pizza hut coupons go home for students who completed their reading goal for the month of December 1/14.
- Report Cards go home 1/14 please sign and return the envelope.
- GATE testing information goes home 1/14 in report card envelopes.
- No School on January 20th.
- Jump Rope for Heart Program will be going on all month.
Class Documents
Here are some documents you may need this week I sent home a paper copy of each week however sometimes they don't make it home. This week I have added a digital copy of our reading log and class newsletter. The newsletter posted has a different format than the one sent home however, it has the same content.
What We Are Learning
Reading: On Thursday his week students will learn how to use various text features (e.g. diagrams, captions, bold print, subheadings, glossaries, indexes, electronic menus, icons) to locate key facts or information in a text efficiently. Test on Wednesday, January 21st.
Phonics: We will review phonogram cards and identify them in our spelling words. Five words will be introduced each day. Please study every night, there are no extra credit words this week
Writing/Grammar: We will begin writing informational texts, as well as learning about irregular past tense verbs. We will have a grammar quiz on punctuation on Friday.
Math: We will be counting by 100s and 10s over 100 as well as adding 100s and 10s and multiples of 100s and 10s. This has been a hard concept for some of them so they may need some help.
Science : This week we will be recording daily weather as well as exploring wind as a major element of weather.
