Week Two

It is officially the second week of school and we are in full swing! We start our days with a morning meeting and end them with social studies. Throughout the day we do reading centers, small groups, writing, spelling, phonics, and computer lab. There is just so much happening in 2G this week. I did want to take a minute and post a PDF of our math homework tonight.

For our math homework students need to solve the four problems and then explain how they got their answer. A big part of our math curriculum is students explaining how they came up with their answer. We don't just want them to know the answer we want them to know how they got the answer!

Math Homework 8/27

For spelling homework students should practice writing each word two times. One time with coding (it is the same as how the word is written under 'words' in their spelling notebook). Their spelling homework will change next week so make sure you read the newsletter next week. Here is a photo of what it should look like for Monday's homework.

Lastly, I wanted to post some classroom photos. Many of you were able to come in and see the room for meet the teacher night but for those of you who didn't see it here are some pictures for you to enjoy! This first collage shows our classroom cottage, student cubbies, a bulletin board for student work, our math focus board and our Early Finisher board. The Early Finisher board is something new this year. It gives students choices of activities they can do when they finish their work early during center time.

This next collage shows our student clip chart that we use for behavior management as part of our school wide behavior system. In 2G we use this clip chart and classdojo for student behavior. If a student earns 5 points they move from green to yellow. If they earn 10 points they can move their clip to orange and if they have 15 or more points.

I will try to blog each day so check back tomorrow for student homework or any class updates!
