Peek at our Last Week

This week is the last week of January. We will be continuing to work, study, and learn some of the same concepts we began last week. We finish up our science unit on weather with a test on Friday. A study guide went home Monday and is within this blog post if you need to download a new copy. There are no extra credit spelling words this week. Students will have math homework, spelling homework and their reading log to do this week. Here is a peek at our week!

Monday: Severe weather: Thunderstorms
Tuesday: Science will continue with severe weather focusing on tornadoes. In reading we will have a test on Wednesday.
Wednesday: Science will finish severe weather hurricanes. Reading Test today. Math is on adding 2 digit numbers on a number line. Students will have to label a number line and practice adding up the numbers. This is a new strategy students need to know.

What We Are Learning

Reading: This week we will start with a reading review of concepts we have already learned. Later on in the week we will start to focus on steps in technical procedures. How do you follow step by step instructions?  Our weekly reading test will be on Wednesday.

Phonics: The students will review phonogram cards and identify them in our spelling words.  Five words will be introduced each day. Please study every night. They will be tested on these words on Friday.

Writing/Grammar: We will continue writing informational texts. We will be writing about severe weather. We will also learn how to write compound sentences. Grammar quiz is on irregular verbs (this was taught last week).

Math: We will continue learning  different ways to add 2 two digit numbers, with and without regrouping.  There are many strategies introduced to allow students to develop a better number sense when it comes to addition.
