Weekly Happenings

Winter break is almost here! The kids have been very excited and have been enjoying all the activities. They especially enjoy the Christmas Around the World unit we have been doing. THANK YOU to all who sent in materials for us to use. This week we will be continuing to work, study, and learn. There is no spelling words or test this week. Students WILL have math homework and their reading log to do this week. Here is a peek at our week!

Monday: Wrap up math review of word problems and money.
Tuesday: Regular day and schedule.
Wednesday: Gingerbread Man book study.
Thursday: Library book checkout and Gingerbread Man book study.
Friday: Holiday snack, and morning assembly with SPANN singers.

Important Dates and Things to Keep in Mind

  1. iPad day for reaching reading goals: 12/18.
  2. Mrs. Snell comes to read to the class 12/19.
  3. Library lesson/checkout 12/18
  4. Holiday Party is on 12/19. Students can come to school in pajamas, with a blanket, and with a stuffed animal. If you want to send something in for the holiday party let me know, please no peanut products. We do need small bottles of water for the day. We have enough napkins and cups from our Thanksgiving celebration but we do still need plates. It is going to be a snack at 10:00 am. We will still be eating lunch at school.

Holidays Around the World

When we learned about Christmas in America, England, and France we made different craft activities. We made our own Santa, a cracker with candy inside it, and decorated a picture of a tree. Here are a couple pictures of students doing some of these activities.

Elf Antics and Escapades

Holly had some more fun over the past week. She sat in a basket, hung on our American flag, brought us an ornament to make, and left us gingerbread houses to decorate!

For the gingerbread houses Holly brought students had to work together in teams to create their gingerbread house. They had to work together cooperatively and come up with a strategy for how they should put their house pieces together.

After each team assembled their houses we let them dry. A couple days later each team got together again to develop a plan for how they wanted to decorate their houses. Students were provided with a bag of materials. Every student in each group had to have a job or had to have contributed to the project/idea in some way. These were the finished projects.

Here are some of the documents you may need to access this week. A Paper copy was sent home of each but a digital copy is posted online for your convenience.

One Last Thing

Students made snowman ornaments with their pictures over the past two weeks. These ornaments will go home with students Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week depending on when each child has finished theirs. They will also be taking home a more fragile ornament on Wednesday. Be on the lookout for these two items.

As always have a great week!
